Last week, Colin installed a cat flap for us in a sliding aluminium patio door. A few days later, I noticed the door was difficult to slide. I called Colin, and he asked if the door could still be locked. I said yes, and he explained that if it couldn’t lock, he would have come back immediately due to security concerns. I reassured him it would be fine until he was next in the area.

Colin later called to confirm an afternoon appointment. True to form, he arrived on time for the follow-up visit, just as he had for the initial measurement and then the fitting a week earlier. Upon arrival, he explained that sliding door units often require further adjustment after removal and refitting. While he was adjusting the door, I mentioned the cat wasn’t using the cat flap. Colin said it’s common for cats to be hesitant at first, especially if they’ve never used one before. I told him I had even pushed the cat through a few times, keeping the sliding door closed as he had advised.

Colin suspected the half-moon horsehair mat placed in front of the cat flap was the issue. He saw the cat purposely walk around the mat, meowing to be let in. He removed the mat, then showed me the door was sliding fine now. Insisting that I try sliding it and locking it, before he left!

Peter’s advice was honest and straightforward; he measured the glass within five minutes. After explained that it was the other door where we needed the cat flap fitted. Peter assured us that on modern UPVC French doors, the glass size is identical on both doors.
The reason Peter couldn’t measure the door , was that a fixed cupboard was blocking part of the glass.
As promised, about a week later, Peter returned with the new double-glazed unit. Despite the cupboard being in the way, he managed to remove the old glass unit without any trouble.
He charged no extra cost, and the installation was flawless. Our cat loves her new flap!
